First Communion

“For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me.”

JOHN 6: 55-57

 First Reconciliation & First Communion

Preparation for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion.

Children's Sacramental preparation is for those who are seven (7) years of age and older who:

  • Are in second grade or older and have not made their First Reconciliation (also called Penance or Confession) or First Holy Communion

COMMUNION PREPARATION PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

  • A child must be baptized Catholic. A copy of the certificate must provided at the time of registration.
  • Attend the weekly sacramental preparation program. Multiple missed sessions may delay reception of sacraments.
  • Children and their parents are expected to attend Mass each Sunday and Holy Days of Obligation.

If your child is not baptized Catholic please visit with our DRE for more information.

If a child has had no previous catechetical formation, it is recommended that they participate in formation for at least one year before preparing for any sacrament.

We are here to guide, teach, and support you and as your child prepares for the sacraments. It is essential to keep in mind that the Church has always considered parents to be the primary educators in the work of forming their children’s faith. Please contact Eliza Rodriguez, Director Religious Education for guidance and materials as you prepare your child for the sacrament of Reconciliation and First Communion.

Confirmation

“Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. For He had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they began laying their hands on them, and they were receiving the Holy Spirit.
ACTS 8:14-17

Confirmation
Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the “sacraments of Christian initiation,” whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For “by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.”  Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1285
